I have a need, a need for power !!!!!!

No modern day adventure trip can transpire without the benefits of using a goodly selection of battery hand held devices….. (keep it clean ) !!
But there in lies the problem, particularly when weight is of critical importance. Lugging around replacement batteries is simply not practicable, so I think recharging is the way to go, if you can set up a charging rig that is itself not too heavy.
I have selected to utilise two methods of drawing energy, solar and wind. A wind turbine (still on the drawing board, but as the bits arrive, taking shape) and a foldable solar panel. Used when conditions suite one or the other, they will plug into the main storage battery and regulator box ( seen above , grey) charging a 2.1 amp 12-15v lead acid battery. This in turn via the small power adaptor will be converted into a voltage required by any of the devices I will be taking, and the appropriate charging current delivered.
So from a pack of 8 x AA’s ,GPS device, Mobi to the laptop I should be good to go, or at least keep in touch. Of course – This is the Last Colony so ‘if’/'when’ we have a few very cloudy windless days consecutively, then I might disappear off the radar scope for a while ![]()
Ill be testing the setup shortly once my solar Panel arrives. Will post up results then.
