My head is spinning, theres so much going on, so much turmoil that talking about any one subject seems trivial in the stramash of global events! Stand back and you see a biological living, intelligent form heading inexorably towards cataclysmic self destruction. Like a cancerous growth, devouring all before, until at last there is only itself to eat.

Focus in closer, at national levels and we see this raging war between the old and the new,  believers and non believers, rich and poor, theocracies and democracies, the rights of the group and the freedoms of the individual... every where you look you see raging conflict, polarisation and territorial demarcation.

Lines are being drawn.

Move in closer. In to the you and me level ... OMG ! Greed, Obesity,hedonism ... failing social conscience, cooperate control, police states, erosion of liberties .... fewer smiles, more traffic jams .. lives ticking by keeping the 'banks' fat and happy!

Then finally at myself ... Alone! Tired, but still with dreams and ambitions ... still believing that we can make it. Lost my hair, loosing my teeth ... could be fitter. Oh I want so much to know that it will all be all right before I slip off the plate .... know that my daughters children and theirs and on into the future, that things will be ok.

But what does it require... how can we know that the course we have taken ... will work out??

The answer of course is simple ... we need visionary leadership. We need leadership that is above the dictates of political dogma, above the dictates of fiscal greed and leadership that has the spine to hold true to the ideals around which we will build our dreams for the future.

When we stop electing fucking knobs into power, then maybe ... maybe the future will be a fine place for our descendants to occupy!

Don't elect someone because they want you to, do so because they share YOUR dream! If you don't have a dream a vision for the future ... shame on you!

India vows crackdown on offensive internet content

Mr Sibal is reportedly upset over tampered photos of Congress party leaders. India has vowed to crack down on offensive internet content, accusing web firms of failing to cooperate. Communications Minister Kapil Sibal met officials from Google, Facebook and other websites on Monday.

On Tuesday he said the firms had told him they were unable to take action.  He said the government would introduce guidelines to ensure "blasphemous material" did not appear on internet. Doctored photos of the PM and Sonia Gandhi have angered the government.

We see an ever increasing encroachment by mediaeval doctrines , such as religion, in the vocabulary of democracy .... when does poking fun, making a criticism or drawing a none to flattering satirical picture of a public servant become blasphemy ... something that thankfully we have managed to get rid of in the UK. Though, there again, we see certain vocal minority groups in the UK, pushing for its re-introduction. Oh dear .... back to the dark ages we go.  

There are not many things that would make me bare arms and fight to the end for .... but democracy is at the top of my list ..... The day I bow before the fanciful dictates of any religious doctrine, will be when my body lies prone and still !  

Those who value these freedoms, value them as a birth right,  had better wake up and start voicing concern at the growing tide of theocratic manipulation of  democratic principles, wether it be in India or the UK !!

The governor of Kansas has apologised for his office's over-reaction to a disparaging tweet from a teenager sent during a visit to the state capitol.

Emma Sullivan, 18, tweeted last week that Governor Sam Brownback "sucked" and "#heblowsalot".But after the governor's office saw the tweet and complained, she was told by her school to write an apology.

Her Twitter following has risen from 61 to 12,000 - four times the number of Gov Brownback's followers.

On Monday, the governor said in a statement: "My staff over-reacted to this tweet, and for that I apologise. Freedom of speech is among our most treasured freedoms."

Ms Sullivan has said she was the tweet was intended as a joke with her friends, but she spent almost an hour in the principal's office over it.

While listening to the governor's remarks in a hall full of students at the Kansas State Capitol on Monday of last week, the teenager tweeted: "Just made mean comments at gov. brownback and told him he sucked, in person #heblowsalot."The Shawnee Mission School District said on Monday it would not force the teenager to write an apology."The issue has resulted in many teachable moments concerning the use of social media," it said in a statement. "The district does not intend to take any further action on this matter."
